Q: How do I sign up?
A: You start with Group Foundations or Private Foundations. If you want to try us out, signup for a free class.

Q: I don’t understand this “Group Foundations” stuff, please explain.
A: Sure, here’s everything you need to know about Group Foundations:

1) What is it? Group Foundations is eight classes that meet twice per week. These classes are one hour long and include “Drills and Skills” during the first half of the class, and a “Workout of the Day” at the second half.

2) So I can’t come to any Workout of the Day (WOD) Classes? No, you can come to unlimited WOD classes after your second Foundations class. You must complete all your Foundations Classes within one month.

3) Why do I need to take it? For you to perform all of Crossfit’s Basic Movements and additional common Crossfit exercises, we need to be able to instruct you, get you to practice, and assess your ability. Doing this in a small, dedicated group setting is the most effective way to do this. Moreover, you CANNOT JUMP 100% into Crossfit – as Coach Glassman, Founder of Crossfit has stated: “It is imperative that someone new to CrossFit takes the first month to learn the movements, if they’re not already intimate with them, and establish consistency before increasing intensity. If you can get through the workouts for one month straight without falling apart, then we recommend that you up the intensity a little the following month. If you throw yourself at this task 100% from day one, these workouts will chew you up and swallow you whole. I promise it. Don’t be misled by the workouts’ brevity. The tougher you are the harder you’ll go down, guaranteed.”

4) What if I have to miss a class? We highly encourage you to make each and every class.  If you are forced to miss a class you can either come to another Foundations Class that is running simultaneously, or in most cases you will have to schedule a make-up class. See the class descriptions here for info on make-up fees.

5) Whoa, you are going to charge me for the eight classes, and then an additional fee if I miss a class and have to reschedule? We understand that people have busy schedules and that missing classes is sometimes necessary. However you are getting those Group Foundations classes and unlimited WOD classes so depending on how often you come, this averages between $12-$17/class even with two make-ups during Foundations.

If your schedule is just wacky, then just do Private Foundations.

6) I’m a Crossfit Level 43 Instructor, do I really have to take Foundations or can I just start the WOD classes? No, email us at info@potomaccrossfit.com to schedule a Test Out.

7) So what’s the intent?
The intent is:

  • To get beginners comfortable with the movements and refine more practiced athletes’ form.
  • To allow a trainer to observe the athlete’s movements closely.
  • To get beginners used to the Workouts of the Day while still challenging seasoned athletes.

Q: Where are you guys located?

A: 1039 N Highland St, Arlington, VA.

Q: When are you open?

A: See our Schedule.

Q: Can I just drop in?

A: If you live locally, only during our free classes Saturdays at 12pm.  Additionally, you have to pre-register for the free class by clicking here and selecting the class you’ll attend.  If you are a Crossfitter visiting from out of town, email us at info@potomaccrossfit.com, and we’ll make something work for you.

Q: If I become a member, can I do whatever workout I want?

A: No, if you have a Membership, you do the WOD that is posted that day. If you are doing 1:1 Training or a Focus Session, you’ll do whatever your coach wants you to do that day.

Q: If I become a member, can I show up whenever I want?

A: No, Crossfit is based around classes and the Workout of the Day so you need to show up on time for the class.  However, there is no restriction on what WOD class you show up for.  If you are a member or enrolled in Foundations, you can show up to any WOD listed on our Training Schedule, we are just saying that you need to show up on time.

Q: If I sign up for the 9x/month or 13x/month Membership, can I come to the free Saturday class?

A: Sure you can, but it counts as one of your 9x/month or 13x/month classes. If you are a member and you want to bring somebody else to the class and they want you to do it with them, then don’t worry about it, come on in and we won’t count it.

Q: Do I have to register online for a WOD class?

A: No, the only time anybody ever needs to register online for a specific class is the initial Foundations Signup and any Seminars or Focus Sessions .  If you want to come to a WOD, you just show up.

Q: How close are you to the metro?

A: Really really close. We are a 3 minute walk south from the Clarendon Metro (Orange Line).

Q: Do you have parking?

A: We don’t have any dedicated parking, but you have several options.

Residential Parking. If you go 3 blocks north or south on N. Highland St there are plenty of spots that have no time limit except between 8 am and 5 pm. Between 8-5 it’s a two hour limit.
Metered Parking. There are meters everywhere around our spot, you only have to pay between 9 am and 6 pm.
3033 Wilson Blvd is free after 5:30 pm (two blocks from us).
2100 Clarendon Blvd is free after 5 pm (ten blocks from us).

Q: Why aren’t you guys called Crossfit Arlington?

A: We weren’t sure if we were going to end up in DC or Arlington, and our first choice was actually “Crossfit Lounge Against the Machine“, but that was taken.

Q: Do you guys have any place where I can lock up my bike?

A: Yes, you can bring it into the gym, so you don’t even have to lock it up. We’ve got a lot of space.

Q: Do you guys have showers?

A: No.

Q: Seriously, you guys don’t have showers?

A: Seriously, no.

Q: What if I can’t do the workouts you guys put up here.

A: Don’t worry, you can – Crossfit is “infinitely scalable.” It doesn’t matter what physical condition you’re in, if you have some basic functionality you can do Crossfit.

Q: Why is this so expensive?

A: This question should really be “Why do you cost more than my Globo-gym membership?” and the answer is that we provide a different, and far more effective service to you.

First, we don’t get paid unless you come – we won’t take your money if you aren’t showing up and you can cancel your membership anytime – try doing that at the Globo-gym.

Second, what are you really getting for that Globo-gym fee? Have you seen results since signing up? How many years have you been going there? Give us six months, if you’re not blown away at your progress then go back to the Globo-gym – we’re confident you won’t because we believe in what we’re doing and we’re invested in your success.

Q: Who does the 15% discount apply to?

A: ActiveDuty/Reserve U.S. Military, Active Law Enforcement Officers, Active Fire Fighters.

Q: Does the discount apply to MIL/LEO/FF spouses or DoD Civilians?

A: No. This might not make sense at first glance, but the way we look at it is that we are one of the (if not THE) least expensive Crossfit facilities in the entire DC Area, but in one of the most central locations. If you use that as a baseline for comparison, you’ll see that our normal rates are extremely competitive.

Q: What if I have more questions?

A: Contact info@potomaccrossfit.com. We’ll get back to you within 24 hours guaranteed (faster 99% of the time). You can also call 703-493-0238 if you need an answer right away.
