“Painstorm XXXVI”
The History:
The first Painstorm was a gathering of some of the UK Crossfitters. Given that some of them traveled up 6 hours (by bus) for the meeting, no one felt like doing “Fran” and calling it a day. So the first Painstorm was something like warm up one round of Helen, followed by a typical CF WOD, followed by the Secret Service Snatch test, and of course partying afterwards.
The Painstorm soon evolved into a monthly competition between CrossFit London (represented by Kempie and Karl Steadman), CrossFit Central Scotland (represented by Davie and his crew) some displaced US military (Gordon Limb and some marine flyers in London, Brian White and his group called team Fallujah) and the group from Brand X. Dan Colson from CrossFit Rockford has “happily” joined in for the last three or four. Karl, Davie and Jeff take turns creating the Painstorms. They tend to be long efforts, in keeping with the original tradition. (Text courtesy Jeff Martin of Brand X)

this workout may end up being my most favorite wod in the world. I am literally christmas morning excited about this…thats if I dont puke during it.
November 27th, 2009 on 9:31 pm
umm..this WOD looks brutal..I mean 150 pull-ups mixed in with 100 burpees…that’s absurd and therefore I am also excited..hopefully we will have make-up on sunday?
November 27th, 2009 on 9:52 pm
I wish Saturday wasn’t my day off. Hopefully this WOD makes an appearance on Sunday.
November 27th, 2009 on 10:20 pm
I am with the fellas. I hope there is a make up on Sunday evening!
November 27th, 2009 on 11:58 pm
I will be there tomorrow, but I still hope there is a make-up on Sunday so I can finish the WOD… or, I guess I’ll just call it a WOW: Workout of the Weekend.
This is going to hurt. Awesomely.

Echo Scott, Rich and Sally above although I did have one question: Are we going to be given longer than an hour to complete?

You sadistic people.
You’ll have to show up to see how we’re going to handle this one – there will be a time limit, and scaling will be STRONGLY encouraged. The WOD will still be incredibly challenging, even with recommended scaling.

I look at the photo and think, “What would Jeremy do?”
November 28th, 2009 on 8:20 am
Yay! Painstorm!
November 28th, 2009 on 8:22 am
Did Dan program this one? I miss his month of scaling warnings and “I told you so’s”

Hi All,
One last shout out to the PCF folks who did not get enough “quality family time” in this holiday because you were stuck in town or at work. We’re having a little game night tonight at my condo in VaSq (maybe 3/4 mi west of the box). Send me a note at christyhartmann at hotmail dot com and I’ll get you directions. Feel free to bring a spotter/roommate/spouse/other.
Cheers!
Christy

20:03 as RX’ed using Dan’s “Strenght Option”
November 28th, 2009 on 10:51 am
This workout looks awesome. This is the kind of a workout that will put hair on your chest. Since I don’t need any I’ll be there at 12 to do the free class.
Rich S.,
I miss you too.
November 28th, 2009 on 11:12 am
30:14 option 2 rx’d (I believe it was the “Less Ridiculous Option” correct me if I’m wrong)
November 28th, 2009 on 12:02 pm
20:18 doing option 3 and 95#
November 28th, 2009 on 12:10 pm
30:00 Rx’d, scaled heavily,(finished at 20 of 50 pull ups). Walked away with just a couple of hand blisters (pull ups) and knee bruises (evil burpees)- not nearly as bad as I thought
Thank you coaches for keeping the energy up the entire time.
November 28th, 2009 on 12:15 pm
30:00 as Rx’d. Made it 10 pull-ups into the last round of 50 pull-ups.
Think I could have finished this one in 37:00 or so. Maybe quicker…but maybe not.
Great WOD! Good to have a mentally tough long one every so often.
Great job Drew and Scott Q! Good to keep pace with you guys!
November 28th, 2009 on 12:45 pm
24:40. Did Option 1 (stopped after the round with 20 burpees) at 95#. Haven’t been feeling or eating well the last several days and it really showed today.
November 28th, 2009 on 12:49 pm

November 28th, 2009 on 1:22 pm
21:47 Using Dan’s scaling option 1. Would have been fun to take it all the way through even though it probably would have been 45 mins. of pain.
November 28th, 2009 on 1:28 pm
29:56 as rx’d (Option 3)
This was the strength option – no additional burpees and pullups after the round of 30 PU, 20 burpees. I don’t think I’ve done thrusters at this weight before…
November 28th, 2009 on 1:46 pm
28:45 scaled to option 2 with 55# and thin red/black bands for pull-ups.
Loved this WOD a little too much.
November 28th, 2009 on 2:25 pm
30:00 as Rx’d, made it to the last round. Awesome job Drew and DF Pete for doing this Rxd with me…you guys were fing bad ass.
This will go down as one of my favorite wods ever.
November 28th, 2009 on 4:58 pm
30:00 as Rx’d. Made it 17 pull-ups into the last round of 50 pull-ups. I should have done 1 more to catch drew, this was definitely a painstorm! It will be interesting the next time this comes around!
November 28th, 2009 on 8:28 pm
Nice job to everyone today – definitely some wise scaling choices.
For the guys that made it to the final round @ the 30 minute mark, very impressive.
Nothing like having the free class walking in going – “what the hell is this . . . “
November 29th, 2009 on 8:07 am
Nope. This didn’t look like the workout to attempt without a battle buddy, so I improvised. 1.5 mile run – 10:35, then Double length Tabata Burpees & Squats: 40 sec burpees, 20 sec rest, 40 sec squats, 20 sec rest for 8 rounds. Got lost on counting somewhere north of 200.
