You know how long I’ve been waiting to do Helen for???
Oh well, I just have to remind myself I’ll be getting a better workout by rowing than sprinting…

What kind of Swings? KB swings? Please clue me in! Thanks!
September 5th, 2009 on 7:27 am
Beth,
I think it’s most likely either KB or DB swings because of the way it is written.
September 5th, 2009 on 8:27 am
Helen has 21 Kettlebell Swings, and happens to be one of my favorite WODs
September 5th, 2009 on 8:34 am
For those that didn’t get the word, the Oly session at 0900 is canceled today.
September 5th, 2009 on 9:37 am
Oh good, since I couldn’t get my big butt outta bed in time, anyway.
Anyone coming to cheer us on at the 5K? I hear Brian does a great post-race BBQ.

Emma, I am on a plane for FL and am so upset about missing Helen that o can’t talk about it. Sad face.
September 5th, 2009 on 11:05 am
13:57, w/ 1.5 pood but some reps with suspect rom.
September 5th, 2009 on 11:10 am

And suffering from Helen cough.
September 5th, 2009 on 11:16 am
Thanks, Melanie!
I swear it wasn’t written that way last night! Or maybe too much rum!?!?
September 5th, 2009 on 11:19 am
14:43
a few orange band pullups at the beginning, mostly red band
1 pood KB
September 5th, 2009 on 11:19 am
Nice work, Sally! And congrats to Scott Q on a monster 505 lb deadlift yesterday.
Helen: 10:25 Rx’d
First time doing this one, so now I have something to shoot for next time: sub 10.
September 5th, 2009 on 11:33 am
I didn’t improve as much as I thought on this:
February 1st, 2009
Helen
3 rounds
400m run (run/walk)
21 kettlebell swings (2x 16kg, 1x 25lb)
12 pullups (black band)
(this was hard to find because this was a “surprise Helen” because the weather was nice that day)
17:31
———–
Today:
Helen – 35# KB swings (American), pullups with green band
17:22
7 months, 9 sec improvement
September 5th, 2009 on 12:01 pm
Heaving snatch balance up to 155# (finally!), then Helen at 11:59 [rowing].
I’ll have to miss the run because I’m headed off to Europe for two and a half weeks. See you guys later.
September 5th, 2009 on 12:02 pm
11:57 Rx’d
September 5th, 2009 on 12:04 pm
13:12, 1 pood kb, thin black band pull-ups
And my first deadhang pull-ups (finally) — Siddharth is my witness.
September 5th, 2009 on 12:04 pm
Susan,
You did great. Your pullups went to the green band from the black band and you did more weight on the kettlebells. Keep up the good work!
I dropped by Crossfit Milford today and did their workout. They had a Member Appreciation Day. More than 100 people showed up for a crazy workout.
3 rounds for time (as a team of 5 people):
400M run
20 burpees
20 squats
20 pushups
20 lunges
bear crawl (don’t remember the distance)
Then another 400M run.
I also didn’t get my time because we forgot (as a team) to ask.
Afterwards, we had some grilled burgers, fruit, and beer. They were setting up for beer pong when I left.
Thanks to Jason for the hospitality.
Good times.
September 5th, 2009 on 12:11 pm
Well, I slowed down from last time, but the last time I didn’t get my head through on every rep, didn’t run a full 400m and was on a track, so I guess I’m ok with that … not really.
I need to keep my runs from falling off after a non-running movement (KB Swings to runs really slowed me down).
8:41 RX
I want to do this again soon.

Glad to be back after a long battle with swine flu or something equally dastardly. Only got through 2 rounds before calling it quits.
September 5th, 2009 on 1:13 pm
10:21 Rx’d (PR)
I actually haven’t done Helen Rx’d since 2007, either had too short a run or too light a weight since then. So hence, a PR.
Kyle – great job, way to represent the Clydesdale Division.
Aaron – Thanks for updating the PR Board for Kelly, I went ahead and erased Boston Mike’s 24:xx and put up my 23:00. Curtis and Seamus were witnesses.
September 5th, 2009 on 1:22 pm
I think it was Jason K. I was talking to about this, but here’s OPT doing Helen in 6:59:

This is Rick’s nephew Brian dropping in today. First time doing Helen. Great meeting the gang. I’ll be back.
September 5th, 2009 on 1:28 pm
Tes and I worked out this morning at Crossfit Boston. Great people if you ever get a chance to come to the Motherland.
3 rounds for time:
5x Dumbell Snatch each arm, 30% BW
60′ resisted bear crawl
5x Dumbell Split Jerk each arm, 30% BW
12x Pullups
Now, AMLAP in 30 minutes….L stands for Lobster.
September 5th, 2009 on 1:28 pm
10 and change. I was more than 1 minute slower from the last time I did this.
No excuses. On a positive note I PR’d my back squat by 30+ lbs. yesterday.
Hope to see some of you at the 911 race. Just show up at the Double Tree hotel in Crystal City and sign up there if you’re interested.
September 5th, 2009 on 1:38 pm
14:10 (subbed row for run and used 40lb KB)
September 5th, 2009 on 2:00 pm
Awesome work everybody. And Jess, try not to do pullups on every low hanging object. Today was a good day…
September 5th, 2009 on 3:07 pm
Helen as rx’d: 11:20 or so. This is one of my least favorite WODs (running) so it was good for me to do this one today despite the fact that I complained the whole time.
Also, forgot to post my CFT from yesterday, which I am actually totally stoked about, so I’m taking the opportunity to post now (and make up for my shameful Helen score). 235BS-105SP-275DL= 615. Thrilled about finally breaking 600.
BZ to Sally, awesome time. And congrats to Jess on the pull up. Nice work in FL, Jen.
September 5th, 2009 on 3:13 pm
Congrats Jess – I got my first ones last week and as Siddharth says, it’s hard to resist doing them on every tree branch, door frame, and tall fence I walk by.
12:03 w/ tan band pullups for Helen (cough, cough).

Fell apart during round 3. Thanks to Brian for cheering me on and telling me not to put the kb down or get off the pullup bar. This was my first time doing Helen and I’ve definitely got the Helen cough.
September 5th, 2009 on 7:29 pm
Great job Jess!!
Taking from Ryan and Liz’s example, I overhead squatted my daughter on the beach today. I also did it in waste deep water which was a little more challenging with waves crashing into you. But playing in the water on the beach is a lot more fun when you are in better shape!

September 5th, 2009 on 7:33 pm
Cool pic, Vaughn, but I know you can handle more than that. You should try overhead squatting Kyle next time you’re in the box.
September 5th, 2009 on 7:49 pm
Vaugh,
I awesome pic but I agree with Chris that you either need to do it with Kyle or Vegas Mike next time.
September 5th, 2009 on 8:18 pm
Holy Crap! I would have a hyena if I tried that with Vegas Mike!!!
