Jon Matzner
Like Brian, I was a Division I baseball player in college. Not surprisingly, I didn’t learn the truth of the quote “I’m not an athlete I’m a baseball player” until being introduced to Crossfit. While in school, and after some limited success with triathlons and distance races, I quickly grew tired of the monotony and lifestyle choices required to continue to be a competitive multisport athlete. Essentially, I felt unfulfilled with the fairly straightforward challenges endurance training presented and its lack of applicability to real life situations. After being introduced to Crossfit by a Captain in Army SF in 2006, I slowly began the self education process that would lead to my Level I certification. In my free time I enjoy lifting heavy things, helping people get their first pullup and getting into arguments about the value of “whole grains” . Turn offs include elliptical machines, jogging/joggers and carbohydrates.
